For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole amour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. Ephesians 6, 12-20

Our wrestling is not with flesh and blood, but the rulers of this present darkness.

Paul said this darkness over the nations is a present reality, which is limited by a set time. Thank God this present darkness has a limited time to it.

We who wrestle do not wrestle with flesh and blood, but the forces of darkness, who jerk and manipulate the unredeemed of this age. The ones who still sit in the darkness, a world that is slowly passing into the eternal night of history.

We who wrestle need to continually look beyond the physical, and into the unseen world, a world which sits and rules over the children of the night.

These dark sinister fallen ones, which reside in the heavenlies. These dark figures of the night, who roam the earth seeking to destroy anyone who comes to the light. These are the ones who we wrestle with. It is not the vessels whom are employed through them, through whom they use to assault our place in Christ. It is the powers of this evil age that we wrestle against.

This otherness of place, which is in the very atmosphere that surrounds us, is so very near us. It is a reflection of this world. This cosmic otherworldly sphere is not out there somewhere, it is in there everywhere? We as creatures are cradled in the powers of this present age. It is an age that we must live and pass through, an age that is destined to be cast out and into the furnace of eternal sorrow and suffering.

This age was broken into and assaulted by the God of Heaven, through the advent of his eternal Son. This was the mystery revealed, which was hidden in God before the foundation of the world.

The eternal God came into present time and history, a history of death and decay, where futility and sorrow rein. And then through the event of his death and resurrection, redeemed us from the powers of this hostile world. This was the great mystery now revealed at Calvary. God in Christ defeated the work of the powers of this evil age, before the end of the age? This is the great mystery of the gospel of Christ, that now before the time, we can live in the time, which is coming, but also through the event of Calvary now has come. God in Christ broke into the strongman’s world, and then released the new world of the age that is coming, right into the age that is passing away. Oh what a mystery, oh what a Savior!
