The thing that the powers of this present age fear more than anything else is to be exposed, when they are brought out into the light, then they no longer have any power over us, their power lies in deceit, deception, fear, domination and lies.

The cross was the event that exposed them, they were brought out of the darkness and into light.

This they did not understand when the put to death, through the hands of wicked men, the prince of peace.

The cross was the event that unmasked the powers. Paul says that they were made a public spectacle, they unknowingly gave away their power through the crucifixion of Jesus.

For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. Colossians 2, 9-15

Many say that the resurrection was the victory of the Son of God, but I disagree with this, I believe the resurrection was the fruit of the cross, the resurrection represents the victory of Jesus at the cross.

That is why he rose from the dead, he defeated him who had the power of death.

Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son. In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Colossians 1, 13-14

At the cross the life of the eternal God descended into death, but the power of death could not hold its grip on Christ.

At the cross death was defeated by the immortal eternal life of the Godhead, in the form of his Son, who destroyed death. God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself through the death of Christ.

Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. Hebrews 2, 14-15

This is now our great inheritance the victory of Jesus over him who had the power of death, who also is called the prince of the powers of the air. He is the energizing force who works through the powers of this age.

Jesus now holds the power of death. In Christ he who had the power of death has been defeated.

This is what the powers did not understand, they put to death one which they had no right to. He was an innocent spotless lamb

And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: Colossians 1, 21-22

The powers signed their own death sentence at the cross.

They had the power of death over Adams decedents, because all have sinned, but they had no rights to Christ, because of righteousness.

This they did not know, Paul said that if powers knew this they would never have crucified the Lord of glory. At the cross Judgment was pronounced over the principalities and powers of this age, the prince of this world was cast out.

Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. John 12, 31-32

The powers had rights to Adams race, for Adam was guilty of death, but they did not have any rights to Jesus.

This they did not understand, that through the death of Christ, death was defeated through death. Death after the cross no longer is the master, life has won.

Remember when Jesus said, the prince of this world cometh, but he has nothing in me.

This is the wisdom of God that these powers did not know, they were fooled by their own craftiness and deceit.

But we speak God’s wisdom in a mystery, even the wisdom that hath been hidden, which God foreordained before the worlds unto our glory:  which none of the rulers of this world hath known: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory:

1 Corinthians 2, 7-8

He was led like a lamb to slaughter, but when they put their evil hateful power of death onto the spotless lamb, they cut their own throats by the weapons they used.

This is the hidden wisdom of God, Haman hung on his own gallows.

These powers are now made void in Christ, they are now subject to his authority, this is the place of our true freedom. With his innocent blood he paid for our release. Now when we come into Christ, we come into the freedom from the powers, which was paid in full for our release.

They have no rights over us in Christ now. We are now seated with him in the place of power, death now has a new master his name is Jesus, he holds the powers by his great victory through Calvary.

This is the Gospel of the grace of God, that now through the cross freedom from the powers has come by the victory of Christ.

The powers now no longer can hold us in their evil grip of sin and death, Christ has defeated them through his death and resurrection.

Christ has broken the authority of the powers. We are now free, bought and paid for, all we have to do is believe. Its already completed in Christos the victor, who is now Gods new humanity, who rules over Gods new creation.
