The judgment of the gods of the nations

At the end of this age, at the coming of the Lord, this world will witness the final judgment of all the gods who are the rulers of this world.

Its astonishing at the volumes written on this end of the age event, which is trigged by the regathering of the nation of Israel, which triggers the return of the Lord from glory, meaning the judgment of the gods of this age.

On that day there shall be a fountain opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness. And on that day, declares the Lord of hosts, I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, so that they shall be remembered no more. Zachariah 13, 1-2

And I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and of pleading, so that they will look at Me whom they pierced; and they will mourn for Him, like one mourning for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn. Zechariah 12, 10

This world of the gods, which were created by the one and only God. The Lord God, who also created all the heavens and earth. This one God who is Lord over all the gods of creation, It is he who will at the end of days judge all the gods of the nations, who he also appointed and put place as the rulers over the nations.

These things are revealed throughout the whole bible. The volumes that are written on this are surprising. All throughout the bible there is this theme, which runs throughout the scriptures of the one true God of Israel, and all the other Gods of the surrounding nations, whom the one true God is also Lord over?

This they will have in return for their arrogance, because they have taunted and boasted against the people of the Lord of armies. The Lord will be terrifying to them, for He will starve all the gods of the earth; and all the coastlands of the nations will bow down to Him, everyone from his own place. Zephaniah 2, 10-11

The history of Israel is a long dark history of always falling away from the one true God, and falling into idolatry, the worship of all the other gods.

The supernatural world view of creation, which was the view of the time of Jesus and and the early church. This was also the world view of the Apostle Paul. Paul had so much to say in his letters regarding these things, which for us who are 2000 years removed from their time, find so confusing to understand.

This theme, which runs from the book of Genesis to the book of Revelation, has been basically lost to our generation.

Our present day theology is now so other than what the early church believed and taught.

This new modern scientific age of the church, has pretty much abandoned the first century Israelite supernatural view of creation.

I believe this is the direct result of the blinding work of the god of this evil age, who is the spirit that now is at work in the sons of disobedience.

They do not know nor do they understand; They walk around in darkness; All the foundations of the earth are shaken. I said, “You are gods,
And all of you are sons of the Most High. Nevertheless you will die like men, And fall like one of the princes.” Arise, God, judge the earth! For You possess all the nations. Psalm 82,5-8

These gods who are so much more a present reality than we think, they are still here, they have never been fully subdued. They are still a very large part of the heaven and earth reality of creation.

We today have been very much blinded to their place in the creation of the cosmos. Humanity is so very much still cradled in the reality of these supernatural structures and systems of the creation, whom they have been assigned these roles of supernatural governance.

This role, in which they operate is very different than natural worldly government. It is a supernatural kind of an reality. The best way I can describe it is like an hand and a glove. The glove represents the natural visible creation, but the hand inside of the glove is the energizing reality, which moves the glove of the visible world?

Somehow in some strange way we are intertwined in this heaven and earth reality with the powers. The principalities and powers are as much a part of creation as humanity is.

They are hidden and invisible to the natural man of Adams race, but once one comes into the reality of Christ, through the regeneration event of the cross, then this new, but always present world system of the supernatural opens up. We begin to see this heaven and earth reality of creation, which the bible teaches is very real.

The great mystery is that these powers, who were put in these places of authority, they somehow have been flawed in their roles as the gods of this world.

Were these gods fallen before the time of Adam and Eve? we don’t really know. There just isn’t very much written on how they came to this place of rebellion against God, and humanity he created.

Why they are so against the purposes of God, this is one of those deep mysteries, which are not revealed to us, but they are scattered throughout the bible.

The bible is very clear though, these rulers and gods, who rule in these places of dominion over the unregenerate world of this age, they will fall in the last days. They will be cast down from their roles as the gods over this age.

I really believe the parable of the vineyard in Luke, 20 has a dual meaning.

And he began to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard and let it out to tenants and went into another country for a long while. When the time came, he sent a servant to the tenants, so that they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the tenants beat him and sent him away empty-handed. And he sent another servant. But they also beat and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed.  And he sent yet a third. This one also they wounded and cast out.  Then the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.’  But when the tenants saw him, they said to themselves, ‘This is the heir. Let us kill him, so that the inheritance may be ours.’ And they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them? He will come and destroy those tenants and give the vineyard to others.

Luke 20, 9-16

I do know that the Jews were participants in in the death of Jesus, but Paul said that the rulers of this age, it was they who were the ones that were really responsible for the death of Jesus.

The bible has very much to say about the end of these fallen powers, who have corrupted and enticed the nations in doing things that the Lord God abhors.

I believe that the cross of Calvary was the sentence of death pronounced over these powers. I believe that the cross was the cosmic display of judgment on the gods of this age.

Paul says that if they had really known what the cross meant for them, then they would have never crucified the Lord of glory.

Then the lookout called, Lord, I stand continually by day on the watchtower, And I am stationed every night at my guard post. Now behold, here comes a troop riders, horsemen in pairs.” And one said, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon; And all the images of her gods are shattered on the ground.” Isaiah 21 ,8-9
